Proving that modern Doctor Who was making classic episodes right off the bat is this, the highest Ninth Doctor story on our list, and one of the scariest Doctor Who escapades ever. On paper a little boy in a gasmask asking for his mummy doesn't seem so creepy but on screen it creates one of the unlikeliest of Doctor Who monsters. In many ways, the empty child is a perfect Doctor Who creation - taking the innocuous and the familiar and making it absolutely terrifying. Aside from the scares, it's also a very funny episode with Christopher Eccleston at his most charming and the arrival of serial flirter Captain Jack.
