30 Greatest Doctor Who Episodes Of The Revived Series

1. The Day Of The Doctor

That's right. Beating Blink to the top spot is the story that celebrated Doctor Who reaching the big 5-0. It's the triumphant The Day of the Doctor. While it's a close call, The Day of the Doctor trumps Blink, a self-contained mini-movie, as it is so perfectly representative of the whole revived series. There's buckets of humour (the repartee between Ten and Eleven), layers of pathos (the tragedy of the Time War), shocks (Capaldi's eyes!) and lots of kisses to the past (Zygons, Tom Baker, even the roundels in the TARDIS). Perhaps more importantly than all of these, however, The Day of the Doctor encapsulates the reason why the revived series is so good. It's just tons of fun. All at once, it's intelligent, hilarious, emotional and totally unashamed of being a ridiculous story about a time-travelling alien, The Day of the Doctor showcases everything you could ever want from a Doctor Who story and so has to be named the greatest of all the episodes of the revived series. Until the next one is aired, of course. Bring on, Series 9! What did you think of this list? Do you agree with the countdown, or has your favourite episode been lost in the vortex?
