30 Greatest Ever Moments In The Walking Dead
1. We Are The Walking Dead
The best moment of The Walking Dead is also it's most underappreciated, taking place in the season five episode Them when the Survivors are shown at their most vulnerable and broken.
After taking shelter from a storm in a barn, Rick Grimes sits at a campfire with his friends and tells a haunting story about his soldier grandfather, and how he kept fighting during the war despite the risks involved. Rick links this to their life, and that they must push on in hope of something better.
Not only does he end with speech with the immortal "We are the walking dead" line, but the scene is then followed up an epic, hopeful sequence in which the whole group band together to hold the barn closed against a swarm of walkers.
It's a powerful, gut-wrenching moment, and sums up The Walking Dead's core theme of survival and togetherness beautifully.
