30 Stars You Forgot Appeared On The X-Files

15. Richard Belzer

Famous for portraying the same character, Det. John Munch, across more shows than any other actor, Richard Belzer of course made The X-Files a stop along the way when he appeared in the 1997 Lone Gunmen starring episode Unusual Suspects, part of the show's fifth season. His appearance marks another milestone in an already important episode: for starters, this was the first episode dedicated to the characters of The Lone Gunmen, and helped establish their characters as more than just background comic relief - something that would lead to the group getting their own, short-lived spin-off. Second, it would be one of the most viewed episodes of the series, with over twenty-one million viewers tuning in. Scripted by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, it would also feature the return of fan favourite X - in a flashback sequence. It was Gilligan who came up with the idea of using the John Munch character, and he reached out to NBC's Tom Fontana, who agreed to have the character hop networks. In the end, it was a win for both shows.
