For a lot of Attack on Titan fans, this particular moment was a crushing blow. Prior to this point, we all thought the Survey Corps were on the same page. Fighting the good fight against the human-eating titans. And then it happened. Just when we thought we had all the answers, Hajime Isayama and co. changed the questions.

It was almost as if fans forgot that although Annie was captured, there were two more titans on the loose. So when it was revealed to be Bertholdt and Reiner, the two older and much-loved members of the Survey Corps, it was an emotionally devastating moment.

Watching Reiner finally snap under the pressure of being away from his home after so many years and decide to finally try and capture Eren was a giant turning point in this show's entire story. As Reiner, now in his Armoured Titan form, scales down the wall with Eren in his hand, it's hard not to feel the same sense of betrayal that our protagonist did during this moment.
