'Preacher' Season 3: 5 Ups & 2 Downs From 'Sonsabitches'

1. Jesse's Dark Side Comes To Light

Preacher Jesse

Jesse's darker side has been hinted at in the past on several occasions, and if it weren't for the dog collar, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that he was a preacher. But it's not all his fault, as he's had a lot to deal with growing up. We know that he had a tough relationship with his father, but it appears that we've only just scratched the surface of the show's protagonist.

While his father may have been hard on him, it doesn't even compare to what his villainous grandmother put him through when he was a child. L'Angelle had him doing all sorts of shady stuff, including bringing in the customers who were behind on their payments for heinous punishments.

The final shot of the episode was more significant than you might think, as the former small-town preacher heads down a set of stairs, and enters L'Angelle's creepy tomb. It's a great scene, and it could be argued that it's metaphorically representative of Jesse stepping back into his darkness.
