4 Ups & 7 Downs From Doctor Who - Revolution Of The Daleks

5. Expositional Padding & Terrible Dialogue

Revolution of the Daleks Doctor Who

Exposition and awful dialogue have been two of the biggest consistent negatives throughout this era of Doctor Who. We're given yet another spiel from The Doctor about how the Daleks are incredibly dangerous creatures (not like we already know that), and we're given more time watching the Doctor think, blurting out various sounds as the cogs turn in her head. It's simply unnecessary, and it's excruciating to watch.

Secondly, Chibnall likes to leave nothing to interpretation. Everything has to be spelled out to us. He treats the audience like idiots, quite frankly. For example, after asking where the human workforce went in Osaka, Dalek Leo squeezes a tube, allowing some translucent goop to drip out. No words need to be spoken, we know what's being implied here- until Jack regales exactly what we're all thinking. Audible groans were coming from my sofa, as we're once again treated like a bunch of kids watching Cbeebies, not allowed to understand what's going on without being spoon-fed.

I would say I want this approach to writing to stop, but since Chris is still in charge, I'm not holding out hope.

Born in Theatre, sits at a Computer. After over a decade of tinkering with Video Editing software, Rich gets to spend his precious time editing whatever's thrown at him. Also the go-to for Doctor Who, and could tell you why Sans Serif fonts are better than most. Still occasionally tap dances under the desk.
