5 Best Doctor Who Gadgets
2. Chameleon Arch
Although not the most-used gadget in the series, it's certainly one of the most interesting gadgets. Being able to rewrite anyone's biology in order to help them camouflage in any situation, the chameleon arch also rewrites the individual's memories and creates a backstory of 'memories' for them, though this memory is more based on facts and figures, rather than experiences - as Joan Redfern noted in John Smith's recounting of his childhood, which was created when the chameleon arch disguised The Doctor as a human when hiding from the Family of Blood.
The Master used a chameleon arch to escape the end of the Time War, and The Fugitive Doctor used the chameleon arch to disguise herself as Ruth, when hiding from the secret Time Lord police: The Division. Said to be incredibly painful when rewriting the user's biology, the chameleon arch often required an extra person to help protect the user, as they would be incredibly vulnerable once their biology was rewritten; the arch wasn't without its faults, but it really was an impressive gadget that The Doctor used to their advantage.
