5 Best Doctor Who Gadgets

1. Sonic Screwdriver

Doctor Who Tenth Doctor sonic screwdriver

We all knew this would clinch the top spot, and for good reason. The sonic screwdriver is a beacon of The Doctor's own personality; intrinsically connected to the TARDIS, multi-functional, clearly alien, and non-violent. The Doctor wasn't given a heat ray, or superstrength - The Doctor was given a screwdriver to go around fixing things. From unlocking doors to tracking biosignals, the sonic does it all. Except work on wood- it doesn't do wood!

From the first use of the sonic screwdriver by the Second Doctor in The Underwater Menace, the sonic screwdriver has been an essential tool for The Doctor to use; often enabling our hero to escape tricky situations! When the sonic was destroyed by the Terileptils, the Fifth Doctor explained that he felt as though he had just lost a good friend. When the Twelfth Doctor decided to do away with the sonic, we were all devastated, and when it made a welcome return everybody was overjoyed. This really is the gadget that trumps them all, and we hope to see lots more of it in the future (or past!)
