2. Sarah Lynn Was Molested By Her Step-Father
Often when childhood stars go off the rails, there’s some sort of dark underbelly to it. Bella Thorne and Amanda Bynes, both stars with varying degrees of parallels to Sarah Lynn, have each come forward to talk about the abuse they were put through in adolescence.
It’s likely to never be explored in the show now, but still worth looking over. The basis for this theory, hypothesised by various fans, other than the general stereotype, are two throwaway lines said by Sarah Lynn in Herb’s garage.
She says that her mom’s boyfriend homeschools her, and that he’s a photographer; neither of these things are particularly creepy on their own, but they do build up the picture.
Soon afterwards, she’s able to identify bear fur just by taste; considering her stepdad is a bear, this suggests she’s used to kissing (or worse) her stepfather. The offhand nature of these remarks, the lack of a punchline for a show so laden with jokes and her mother’s clear lack of care for her... it certainly makes for grim thinking.
Given BoJack’s frequent use of pop culture jokes, her dad might even be a reference to the mid-00s meme, Pedobear.
