5 Doctor Who Actors Who Haven't Quite Made It To Hollywood
2. Matt Smith
Suffice to say, fans thought Matt Smith had really hit the jackpot when Ryan Gosling personally handpicked him to star in his directorial debut How to Catch a Monster. The film unanimously flopped before it even hit the public domain, though, as it was premiered - under the new guise of Lost River - to generally unfavourable reviews at this year's Cannes Film Festival. In fact, it faired so badly (the Telegraph described it as "mouth-dryingly lousy") that it won't even get a proper theatrical release. All fans have seen of it is a short trailer which shows practically nothing apart from Matt Smith asking the audience to look at his muscles. If you're into that sort of thing, you may want to invest in it when it's released on DVD next year. There are still exciting times ahead for Matt, though. He'll be appearing in Paramount's Terminator Genisys reboot, coming to a cinema near you next summer, (here's the trailer - brownie points if you can spot him!) and most recently he's been working on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, a horror romcom based on the novel of the same name. The former Eleventh Doctor star has been trying so very hard to spread his wings since leaving the world of Doctor Who behind him but so far he hasn't quite managed to break the mould. It's only been a year, though, so let's not write him off just yet.
