5 Doctor Who Writers Who Should Return For Series 9 (Plus 5 New Ones)

9. Toby Whithouse

Toby Whithouse's first contribution to the Doctor Who universe came in 2005 when he signed up to script an adventure which would feature the long awaited returns of Elisabeth Sladen as fan favourite Sarah Jane Smith alongside the ever faithful robotic dog, K-9. No pressure! The episode in question, School Reunion, is often regarded as one of the best of the revived series so far, with its setting, character development and moments of tear-jerking nostalgia proving that Toby was the perfect candidate to take on the comeback of such a beloved Classic Series companion. It was no surprise to fans, then, that he has since been asked to return not once, not twice, but thrice, and he also put pen to paper for an episode of Doctor Who's acclaimed spin off, Torchwood, back in 2006. He isn't defined by genre either, as his past contributions have featured vampires (The Vampires of Venice), haunted hotels (The God Complex) and, most recently, a Western (A Town Called Mercy). You can't get much more diverse than that! Over the years he's had the privilege of writing for two of the franchise's most popular Doctors and it's high time he returned to leave his mark on the Twelfth Doctor's era too. What's more, Toby is no stranger to the realms of fantasy drama having created another of the BBC's smash hit drama shows, Being Human, which ran for 5 successful series on BBC Three and currently holds the title of being one of the most watched shows on BBC iPlayer. With added experience of helping his own TV series, perhaps we are not only looking at a writer for Series 9, but a potential future head writer full stop? Tumblr Lh428cswkm1qghoe6o1 500 Gif
