5 Doctor Who Writers Who Should Return For Series 9 (Plus 5 New Ones)
5. J.K. Rowling
Ok, let's move on to the five new writers who should be given a crack at the whip in Series 9, starting with one of the most successful and universally acclaimed novelists of our generation. As the creator of one of the industry's most sought after and highest grossing fantasy franchises (that's Harry Potter, if you didn't know!), J.K. Rowling's indisputable talent for storytelling has not only made her one of only five of the world's self-made female billionaires, and the first billion-dollar author, but it has also left her equipped with a legion of dedicated fans who would, quite literally, follow her to the ends of the Earth and back. There's no doubting that her expertly plotted narratives, superb eye for characterisation and witty dialogue would lend themselves to the style and format of Doctor Who, and it will be no surprise to hear that she has already been approached to write an adventure for the Time Lord. In 2005, then-showrunner Russell T Davies invited her to pen the first Doctor Who Christmas Special, an offer she kindly refused citing she "simply didn't have the time". Well, she was in the middle of writing the sixth Harry Potter book, so we'll let her off - this time! Russell didn't take it too personally, though, as the 2007 episode The Shakespeare Code serves as a heartwarming tribute to her, with her literary works being regarded in the same light as that of William Shakespeare's himself. As compliments go, that one ain't too shabby! As an extra bonus, J.K. Rowling is fast becoming an avid tweeter and is actively involved in the social media musings of her devoted Harry Potter community, an attribute which would be highly regarded by Doctor Who fans if she were to ever make the giant leap into the Whoniverse. In the meantime, the Tenth Doctor sums up our feelings pretty well.
