1. It's The Doctor, Not Doctor Who
Yes, I'm afraid so. The belief every Doctor Who fan holds dear some of us may even correct someone in the street if they get it wrong - is false. He is, in fact, called Doctor Who. I know, I know. In the First Doctor story, The War Machines the Doctor is up against a mad supercomputer, WOTAN, intent on enslaving the good people of 1960s London. The computer needs the Doctors intelligent mind for something or other vital to its evil mechanical machinations and so, the cliffhanger of one of the parts, sees the villainous hunk of metal say, indisputably, Doctor Who is required! The behind the scenes reason for this is that the show was under a new production team who had yet to fully get to grips with its rules but that doesn't change the fact that its still there, literally in black and white. And its not an isolated incident; although this is not in the programme itself, theres a Third Doctor serial called Doctor Who and the Silurians. Maybe we've been wrong all this time? And, if you think about it, hes never denied that thats his name, even with the repeated use of the phrase in recent Doctor Who. Who knows, as Steven Moffat promises that we will find out the Doctors true name in coming season finale The Name of the Doctor it could actually beno, it wouldn't, couldn't actually be revealed as could it? Only time will tell.
Are there any other similar facts about the show that have been contradicted over the years? Were the Daleks once revealed as misunderstood bubbly lovely things? Has the Doctor actually always been a woman? Why not let us know by leaving a comment below.
