3. Modern Family
Creator: Christopher Lloyd & Steven Levitan Network: ABC Honestly, this show does just fine where it is now; Im just more surprised that there is a funny, honest, and high quality comedy on one of the big four. What works for Modern Family is the mockumentary style thats been adopted since the British Office (and of course the US counterpart, and Parks and Recreation). It provides the audience a personal route into each characters psyche. Its not that Modern Family would be better if it was on FX or Showtime, it doesn't need language or more sex, but when you take a trip around network comedies there isn't anything really like it. There are some cheesecake moments like when Jay Prichett, grandfather patriarch, will voice over a little heartwarming family spiel, but most of the time it works. Its almost like a live-action rendering of the old Simpsons episodes. They always close on a note that just makes you feel good.
