5 Most Cable-Like Shows On Network TV

3. Modern Family

3. C ModernCreator: Christopher Lloyd & Steven Levitan Network: ABC Honestly, this show does just fine where it is now; I€™m just more surprised that there is a funny, honest, and high quality comedy on one of the €œbig four€. What works for Modern Family is the mockumentary style that€™s been adopted since the British Office (and of course the US counterpart, and Parks and Recreation). It provides the audience a personal route into each character€™s psyche. It€™s not that Modern Family would be better if it was on FX or Showtime, it doesn't need language or more sex, but when you take a trip around network comedies there isn't anything really like it. There are some cheesecake moments like when Jay Prichett, grandfather patriarch, will voice over a little heartwarming family spiel, but most of the time it works. It€™s almost like a live-action rendering of the old Simpsons€™ episodes. They always close on a note that just makes you feel good.

I'm currently getting my masters in Writing and Publishing in Chicago. I usually fill my time with marathoning great television. My favorite shows are The Sopranos, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Breaking Bad, Dexter, The Wire, Lost, and so much more. Count on me to write mainly about television.
