5 Reasons You Should Watch Mr. Robot

2. The Most Experimental Show You'll Ever Watch

Often the shows that will get spoken about a lot in high regard are the ones that treat filming like a chore - something that must be done to get the story across, but the story's good enough, so nothing truly "different" needs to be done.

Generally, that's because most shows do fall in to the same category when it comes to filming, as both good and bad shows will simply film normally and won't do anything new. This is fine of course, it's a tried and tested formula for success. From Arrow and Supernatural to The Sopranos and Breaking Bad, all these shows tend to take the fluidity of the craft for granted.

Mr. Robot, however, takes the film making handbook and throws it out the window.

Of course, there are a lot of episodes, due to their nature and subject matter, that aren't doing anything beyond the normal camera work (but as mentioned before, in Mr. Robot, this is a cut above most anyway). But there are tonnes of episodes within the run of this series that would put Art House directors to shame. In every series, there is at least one episode that tries to do something completely different and it's always to absolutely phenomenal effect.

To give just a few examples, there's an episode that's filmed completely in one long, unending shot and this is one of the tensest and thrilling episodes of TV you'll ever see.

There's also an episode without any dialogue whatsoever, the story is told instead through facial expressions, music, and text messaging.

And finally, there's an episode that's filmed like a sitcom from the 80s, where characters wait for a laughing track and the acting purposely gets quite wooden, this, ironically is one of the series' darkest episodes.

The only other show that can compare to Mr. Robot in terms of sheer variety is Legion, but Mr. Robot is certainly better at it.
