This one broke everybody.

Bird person shot straight into fans' hearts. His dry demeanour, and monotonous voice hid a character who cared very deeply about Rick. The feeling was mutual - the two were solid gold BFFs (sorry Squanchy).

The season two finale 'The Wedding Squanchers' centres around Bird Person's marriage to Summer's high-school friend Tammy. The episode is a rare glimpse into Rick's past. Things go horribly wrong, though.

Whilst delivering a speech, Tammy leaves fans and wedding-goers alike stunned into silence at the revelation that she's an undercover agent for the Galactic Federation. She places the entire wedding under arrest. Her new husband, shell-shocked, tries to reason with her.

Tammy turns to Bird Person and shoots him in the chest. He falls down to the floor below the platform, twitches, and dies. Rick cries out in despair, but there's nothing he can do to save his best friend.

As if death wasn't bad enough for fans to swallow, at the end of the episode we see that Tammy has resurrected Bird Person and begrudgingly renamed him 'Pheonix Person", and has ordered him to hunt down his old best friend.
