Fan casting for Lois started immediately with big stars and relative unknowns all being suggested. The choice of Lois is a key insight to the current thinking of the network and studio about the possibility of a Superman TV series. Had the announcement been that someone like Alexandra Daddario, whose name was a recurring suggestion online, was cast as Lois…then we’d know there was never a chance for a Tyler Hoechlin series.

Daddario has a burgeoning film career following a run on the acclaimed first season of HBO's True Detective and wouldn’t be looking to sign up for an ongoing series. These genre shows are notorious for their rigorous production schedule and massive time commitment, so if the studio and network are considering a Superman series, they would have to partner Tyler with an actress willing to go in for the long haul. The alternative option would be stunt casting a well known talent that’s great for the crossover week, but has no future beyond that.

Enter Elizabeth “Bitsy” Tulloch, a talented actress who is familiar with the trials of making an hour-long special effects laden show having been on NBC’s Grimm for six seasons. The show started off to uneven reviews, but slowly found its legs and developed a fan following that sustained it although it never was a ratings hit. So, she has experience, but also not quite yet a household name which gives her that fresh face appeal networks look for in casting their leads. She is also currently not attached to any other projects, so she is free and at a point in her career where signing up for a series like this would be good exposure while providing regular work. Upon her casting Tulloch put a statement out on Instagram thanking the producers for this opportunity and expressed long standing admiration for the role of Lois Lane. Sounds like a match made in heaven.
