5 Signs DC Is Secretly Developing A Superman TV Show

The other initial conflict in starting a Superman series back in 2016 would have been Supergirl which just found new life on the CW after a near death experience at CBS following the first season. Trying get established on a new network may have been undermined by the appearance of her famous cousin, who originally was never going to appear in person for just such a reason. The show is “Supergirl” and the producers wanted to keep the focus on her as a unique character in her own right. The change in policy was made to help give her relaunch on the CW a boost, but they were careful to not let this take away from Kara.

If the powers-that-be decide to proceed with a Superman series, should the crossover be successful, it likely wouldn’t debut until next fall at the earliest. Supergirl would be entering it’s fifth season by that time should it be renewed. It is firmly established in it’s own right by now, and in fact the question at this point starts to be about the endgame. The usual contracts for the actors is 7 seasons, after which both parties must negotiate what to do next. In this case star Melissa Benoist may very well decide to explore other options. This summer she made her Broadway debut in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical which delayed her joining the Supergirl set until a month after production already started. Notice Supergirl has a temporary space suit looking costume with a full mask in the previews? There is a reason for that.

The cast is no stranger to turn overs having allowed series regulars like Calista Flockhart and Jeremy Jordan to leave to pursue other interests, so likewise Benoist may feel like seven years in the cape is a successful run to proudly conclude on. This may also fall in line with WB Studios plans as they have just announced they are developing a Supergirl feature film that would be unrelated to the show.
