5 Signs DC Is Secretly Developing A Superman TV Show

4. Doubling Down On The People’s Superman

It’s Studio 101 that material that “sells” well is pushed. That’s why every studio that has the right to any comic book character is making a film if they can (I’m looking at you Sony’s Spider-Man-less Spider-Verse of films). Despite the audience approval of Tyler Hoechlin, he has been benched except for an appearance at the end of Supergirl's second season. The Arrowverse is restricted from using characters the film division wants in a policy that is one-sided. Hoechlin was completely absent the following season even during that year’s crossover Crisis on Earth X which saw a battle so epic that despite all the networks heroes packed in one room, the heroes needed even more reinforcements. Wasn’t that a job for Superman? But no one called him despite being a natural fit for the story.

Now a year later we have a Gotham City-based crossover that will serve to launch next year's new Batwoman series with Ruby Rose in the cowl, and in a shocking move it’s announced Tyler Hoechlin will appear all three nights. No one expected Superman to be included in this Bat-centric adventure. In one fell swoop the ban is lifted, and his appearances will have doubled. Also significant is that the legendary Lois Lane would be joining him. Wonderful, but curious news to be sure, and the selection of the actress to play Lois only adds to the clues.
