The CW shows are getting older by the standard of TV years, and if they are to remain a staple of the network they will need new blood. A new show will be needed to either anchor the CW shows if remaining on the CW is DC’s goal. They may also choose to forgo network tv to focus on a new digital direction.

This fall saw the launch of DC Universe, the company’s all-access streaming subscription service, offering 80 years’ worth of history in films and TV, as well as original content. It will soon offer exclusive series such as Titans, Doom Patrol, Swamp Thing, and Stargirl. These characters are DC Comics mainstays, but not the sort of A-list characters that would draw mainstream attention.

DC Universe represents a landmark moment for the company as it adapts to the modern entertainment market that has changed greatly since DC was founded in 1934. It is also the first super-hero subscription service to hit the market. The company can't afford for this project to fail, so they'll need to be able to market it beyond just any one demographic. DC needs to provide a show that can appeal to everyone. Something that unites rather than divides. This sounds like a job for Superman.
