5 SNL Characters That Deserved Their Own Movie

3. Samurai Futaba (John Belushi)

bels One of the first superstars from Saturday Night Live, John Belushi also created some of the most memorable characters and sketches the show has ever seen. Additionally, he and Dan Aykroyd are responsible for bringing about the first SNL screen adaption - the previously mentioned Blues Brothers. So why not do it again? For years John Belushi's Samurai Futaba sketches were the most awaited and loved skits. His bizarre appearance, incoherent speech, and surprising agility made for some interesting comedy. Again though, this is another that would probably get tiring after a while (how many movies are there where you can't understand the central character? Besides Wall-E.) Probably the best way to make it work would be to first of all make his character speak understandably. Second, pattern it after Steve Martin's infamous film The Jerk. Think about it... in the Samurai skits, we always see him working a different job. One week a delicatessen, another week a hotel. So have the movie be about him moving from place to place, always trying to find a new way to make a living.
