3. Angel
What: Angel was a drama series that ran for five seasons from 1999-2004. It was a spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, another show created by Joss Whedon. David Boreanaz played Angel, a 242 year old vampire who had his soul restored to him as punishment for his horrendous deeds and past life. With his soul back, the guilt crushes him as he realizes the pain he has caused and becomes a benevolent vampire, aiding in "helping the hopeless".
Why: Angel was one of those dramas that had a complete niche of its own. It took a more gritty and dark approach to the already-instated Buffy universe. It instantly became popular among fans until its abrupt - and heartbreaking - cancellation. Granted, I was 11 when this series started and though I can't remember much of the earlier seasons, I do remember it scaring the living crap out of me each time. I admit it, I was a wimp back then, but this was one wimp who wanted more crap scared out of him as I couldn't...stop...watching. One of the reasons why this show should become a movie is because after its cancellation, it actually continued into the literary world and has since retained its cult following! It meant that Joss Whedon was not done with this series and knowing how brilliant of a director he is, how would an Angel movie - one of his very first babies - fare? We'll never know unless he makes one!
And come on, who doesn't want to hear that awesome theme song roll in during the beginning credits?
