5 Ways The Fourth Doctor Impacted Doctor Who History

2. Darker Storylines

There are many complaints lately that Doctor Who is becoming too dark. Actually, there were often many dark undertones in the Fourth Doctor's run. The show became deeper and subsequently more artistic, in a way. The most notable example is Logopolis. This 1981 serial had many pretty dark themes including death, but also rebirth considering it marked the Fourth Doctor's regeneration. The stories were great, of course, prior to the Fourth Doctor but they didn't have as much depth in meaning. Tom Baker's era had moral lessons and set some ground rules for the future of Doctor Who. It was during his particular TARDIS tenure when the writers really got creative and succeeded in getting the art ball got rolling. These themes are still retained by NuWho today. tumblr_inline_mvskawoUSc1r4rbqj
