15. Arkwright - Open All Hours
Another classic British comedy, featuring arguably Ronnie Barker's finest comic creation. Shot almost at the same time as the excellent Porridge, the sitcom set in a local shop soared precisely because of Barker's involvement. Alongside co-star David Jason, he was mesmerising and vulnerable, despite being unlikable on the surface, and the lengths he went to, whether to attract the attentions of Nurse Gladys Emmanuel or to save a few pennies here and there made for irresistible viewing.

Susan runs the Harper household and tries to keep some degree of order throughout the series'. She has been described as a control freak by her son Michael which she will quite happily admit to.
