6 Best Lines On TV In 2013

2. "Not great, Bob!" - Mad Men

Petemadmen Gif There seems to be a consensus out there on the internet that Mad Men isn't as dramatically satisfying as it used to be, and since its peak in earlier seasons it has all been downhill. To that I say: Have you even been watching the show? It isn't as reserved or deliberately paced as earlier seasons, but you would expect that the explosion of dramatic plotlines would satiate fans desires for entertaining yet serious programming. It's often brought up that the show itself has changed with the times it is presenting (1968 was a lot louder than 1960), but the show has been consistently great despite the shift in tone. And one of Mad Men's greatest strengths is constantly reminding you that Pete Campbell is a human being who needs to be punched in the face. Hard. Just when you think he is starting to become sympathetic (his wife is leaving him, his mom absconded on a cruise with her supposedly gay caretaker/nurse) he drops a line that is so absurd and dismissive to the one character on the show who seems to be a nice person. So what if he's a gay drifter and grifter who ceaselessly and with great smarm tries to move himself up in the world? Bob Benson at least does it all with a smile. Vincent Kartheiser delivers one of the most nonchalant lines in the show with such aplomb that it instantly became an internet meme worthy of that title.
