6 Major DC Comics TV Reveals At New York Comic Con
4. Batman Returns Actor Heads Back To Gotham
Gotham is a strange beast. While it clearly takes cues from Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, certain characters (and the tone in particular) appear to be inspired by Tim Burton's earlier work on the Batman franchise. Now, the Fox series has at least one more bizarre link to the past thanks to the casting of Paul Reubens as The Penguin's father. What's the big deal? Well, the actor is actually reprising the role 23 years after he played the character in Batman Returns, a bizarre bit of stunt casting and something it's hard to get too excited over seeing as how The Penguin's scenes with his mother (played by the always irritating Carol Kane) have so far been some of the worst in the series to date. That was really the only major piece of Gotham news to come out of the show's panel at the New York Comic Con, though there was a very interesting tease during the fan Q&A portion. Asked about the recent death of Cameron Monaghan's Jerome, a villain most believed was going to be revealed as The Joker, it was mentioned that "If you watch the episodes closely, youlll start seeing seeds of that story develop. Its not the last youve seen of that character." Seeing as how he's dead, chances are the actor won't be making a physical return, but they're no doubt referencing recent comments from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller which saw him indicate that Jerome's actions will set the stage for the real Joker to be created. It's a weird and arguably ill-advised way to handle the Clown Prince of Crime, but you can't deny that's it's hard not to be intrigued by what exactly the show may have in store for the iconic bad guy!
