6 Major DC Comics TV Reveals At New York Comic Con

5. Why Superman Won't Be Mentioned In Supergirl

If you've already seen the Supergirl pilot (and with it leaking online earlier this year, chances are you probably have), you'll know that it includes a fleeting glimpse of Superman, the cousin of Kara Zor-El. His role in that first episode is a surprising one, but after a brief shot of the Man of Steel delivering his young Kryptonian cousin to the Danvers, he's only ever referred to in the vaguest of terms. Why? Superman taking on a significant role in the series may seem unlikely what with Henry Cavill playing the character on the big screen, but if we can have two actors playing The Flash - Grant Gustin and Ezra Miller - at the same time, why can't the Man of Steel show up in the CBS series? The answer to that remains a frustrating mystery, but don't go expecting the status quo of Supergirl's series to alter in this respect any time soon. Talking at the show's panel at the New York Comic Con, executive producer Ali Adler explained why they're going out of their way not to directly mention Superman's name, instead using other monikers when it's necessary to refer to the iconic superhero. " all live in someone€™s shadow in our lives, and we€™re all second best to someone in our lives," she reasoned. "What€™s amazing on this show is she gets to be at the forefront, so we€™re going to address where he is very quickly in the series. But it€™s her show.€ It sounds like rather than having Superman be a few minutes flight away in Metropolis, Supergirl is gong to take him off planet then, something which would actually make sense to at least some extent. Still, while this isn't the most satisfying of explanations, it's confirmation that fans shouldn't get their hopes up about a Superman/Supergirl small screen team-up just yet.
