6 Perfect Settings For The Next Star Wars Animated Shows

3. A Star Wars Legends Anthology Series

It's no secret that the Legends material has its fans who were a bit put off when all of those stories were rendered non-canon. While some of those elements have been brought back into canon much of the best material remains removed. A series designed to adapt some of those stories to the current Star Wars canon would be welcomed by fans and considering all factors best suited to an animated anthology.

Even if the story group was determined to bring back a large amount of the Legends material , it would be and has been fairly complicated. The approach to date is one of cherry picking characters and elements from legends and finding places to make them fit in the official canon. This becomes problematic because much of the Legends material takes place far and away in the ancient past and very little of the present Star Wars material has touched any farther back than the prequels.

To complicate matters more the most prominent stories tend to take place hundreds or thousands of years apart from each other. Tales of The Jedi takes place thousands of years before Knights of The Old Republic which in turn is set thousands of years before the events of Knight Errant and Jedi Vs Sith. All of them are beloved pieces of Star Wars lore and presently they all are officially out of canon.

An animated anthology series would have the benefit of being a sandbox in which creators might run wild. It would be an excuse to expand Star Wars into many different styles of art and animation allowed to vary greatly between stories and to visually define lore that has never been brought to life. Just imagine a Star Wars anime directed by someone like Katsuhiro Otomo or if Brad Bird were to be handed a Star Wars story to direct and tell in his own style. It would be a format in which original Star Wars stories could be mixed and matched with re-imagined Legends and brought to life by legends of the medium.

While an anthology of this type is very possible it's included here mostly because it’s something that certain fans really want to see. The likelihood of such a series is probably not the highest but EU fans such as myself and Star Wars fans in general would love it.

Early Ray Mixon hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
