6 Perfect Settings For The Next Star Wars Animated Shows
1. Between Trilogies
The other and perhaps most likely setting that the previously mentioned leaks might be suggesting is the period of the central decade in the thirty year span between the original and sequel trilogies. While the comics are covering some of this territory, it would be really cool to deep dive into this midway point and learn more about Luke, Ben and the other Jedi of this time.
While we might miss a lot of the nostalgia that an earlier set series would no doubt deliver we would still get plenty of Luke kicking butt. We would also get to meet and perhaps even learn to love a young Ben Solo.
The current comic series Rise of Kylo Ren is giving us a taste of this era but it’s a short series and while we may be getting a more sympathetic view of Ben through it, it's doubtful too many more people will really like him by the end. However, as we've seen with Clone Wars even the most obnoxious and misguided characters like Anakin can be made to shine as heroes when placed in the best context and given time to develop within it.
Of course, an animated series wouldn’t just be able to give us better insight into the characters and introduce us to a whole cast of new characters but show us the New Republic in the prime of its short life. Through Mandalorian and Star Wars Resistance we have been given glimpses of the New Republic at the beginning and end of its power in the galaxy but never had the chance to explore the height of its power and see how the galaxy functions once the new order is fully established and strong.
With the Empire ten or so years in the past and the First Order just about as many years in the future there is an almost unique opportunity in this time period to mine the EU for story material. We may find the kinds of Legends that we never thought we'd see like the Yuuzhan Vong and perhaps even Mara Jade being given a new life in such a series.
This isn’t even counting any number of Jedi survivors, Padawans and Sith Lords who have been erased from canon and might find a home in animation thanks to a show set during this time. In a series based at least in partly on the New Jedi Order books it seems inevitable that we will see a number of nods to the original material, if not flat out adaptation.
While the rumors may not all agree on what is coming next, whichever of these many amazing settings Lucasfilm lands on, it will be very exciting to see brought to spectacular life in animation.
