6 Podcasts Being Adapted To TV (And 5 More That Should Be)
8. Will Be: The Horror Of Dolores Roach (Blumhouse Television, Amazon)
Sweeney Todd retooled for a modern day audience, Gimlet's "The Horror of Dolores Roach" may yet prove to be a darkly enjoyable series following "Magic Hands" Dolores Roach, who returns from prison, finds her home unrecognisable as a result of New York City's gentrification, and starts a massage parlour above an empanada shop.
You can probably see where this is going.
The fantastic thing about Dolores Roach is how down to earth and oddly sympathetic she is, for all that she turns humans into mincemeat to support one of the few shops still standing in an increasingly gentrified neighbourhood. The darkly funny framing of the story shows the horrors experienced by those who are pushed out by fast-moving urban development, and the ridiculous, almost campy urban legend feel of the tale would absolutely make for good television.
With Blumhouse Television and Amazon bringing it to stream, this (so far) two-season podcast will hopefully continue the trend of interesting and enjoyable stories put to TV to reach an even wider audience.
