6 Reasons Why You Need To Watch Ted Lasso

3. Its Self-Deprecating Humour

Ted Lasso manages to mock itself at almost every turn. It knows what it is, it knows that the premise is ridiculous and that all of the footage of them actually playing a game is worse than awful. However, it doesn't care, it humiliates itself furiously for it in fact.

Any fan of the real Premier League would usually shake their head at the whole situation and switch off, but with Lasso's clever use of a very British sense of humour wrapped in the stars and stripes, it makes it funnier to witness these idiocies.

There is a feeling in Britain that American comedy is generally crass and over the top, however Jason Sudeikis and his team tapped into that and made a show that more fits within British humour than that of their homeland. Ted Lasso is more sardonic in tone rather than a genuine attempt to capture football's elite playing the game.

It at times feels more like Peep Show than How I Met Your Mother, and whilst it retains certain Americanisms, its tactility is rooted very much in British culture.
