6 Reasons Why You Should Be Watching Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

5. The Roots

The Roots seemed like an odd choice for Fallon's house band, and it took the show a while to use them well. But now The Roots seem like a staple of the show, and their song Here I Come starts each episode off with a bang. A segment Freestylin' with the Roots is one of the best showcases of their talent, and involves the Roots freestyling a song about an audience member based on minimal information. One of the great things The Roots have done is reinvent the traditional walk out song for guests. Rather than just play a normal song, The Roots play a song related to the guest (Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer for Maya Rudolph, He's So Fine for Ralph Fiennes) and the look on the guests' faces when the realize what song is being played is genuinely funny. The Roots also use their many musical connections to bring on big name musicians to sit in with the band and play during a night's show. There hasn't been a better house band on late night, and there probably won't be one any time soon.
