6 Supporting TV Characters Who Stole The Show (And 3 Who Never Should Have)
3. Aunt Clara - Bewitched
Throwing it way back now, it's time to appreciate one of the few supporting characters of the 1960s who successfully managed to shine just as bright as all of her respective show's main stars - and that, is none other, than Bewitched's Aunt Clara.
Portrayed by Marion Lorne, Aunt Clara was one of main character Samantha's many extended family members that would pop up on the show from time-to-time. That said, she soon began to appear rather regularly throughout the show's first couple of seasons - and for darn good reason.
The aging witch's bumbling mistakes were a constant source of humour while the outcomes of her spells often made for some of the show's most side-splitting moments. And, as great as the character was written, a large part of the reason why Clara was so beloved was down to Lorne's exceptionally comedic performance, as she effortlessly mumbled her way through spells and reacted to her goofs with outrageously wonderful expressions that always incited laughs from the viewers.
An episode of Bewitched was always a funny experience, but an episode with Aunt Clara in it was nothing short of hilarious. She was, without a doubt, the funniest character to ever appear in the show's eight-year run and, quite frankly, it was never the same after her death (just before the fifth season). It was only fitting that she was posthumously awarded an Emmy later that year.
