By far, the actor who had the worst experience on the show was Josh McDermitt.

Eugene was a polarising character, which was the point. Introduced as a cowardly intellectual who tricked others into protecting him, it's fair to say that he was easy to hate. It became worse when he seemingly betrayed his friends to make bullets for Negan.

It was these actions of his character in the show that caused McDermitt to receive a huge barrage of hate from the fans, one in particular compared him to Joffrey from Game of Thrones for how much they hated him. What's worse still, is that he began to receive death threats.

It must be said that regardless of how much a character is hated, it is disgusting to send the actor death threats. He isn't the first to experience this from the show, as other actors such as Brighton Sharbino who played Lizzie received them too. But the whole affair caused Josh to delete his social media accounts. He said he didn't care if the fans hated Eugene or loved him, but wishing death upon him would cause a straight up police report.

The idea of fan culture is routinely revealed to be negative, as some cannot seem to distinguish fiction from reality. Though Josh is still active on the show, he is still angry about how he has been treated by the die-hard fans, and he has every right to be.
