7 Community Alumni Who Went On To Work In Sci-Fi

7. Dan Harmon

Dan Harmon says he based elements of Community on his own time spent at a community college. Presumably, these elements are the basis for the more grounded parts of the show, like a group of friends studying and growing together, and not the more fantastic stuff, but you can never tell.

After his work on Community, Harmon helped create a show which he almost certainly did not base on any real life experiences: Rick and Morty. Alongside Justin Roiland, Harmon created the adult animated series, which follows a young boy and his alcoholic scientist grandfather on their adventures through space and time. Harmon even voices the recurring character Birdperson, as well as a few more minor roles.

Rick and Morty is a weird show, even by sci-fi standards. Its quirky settings, weird plotlines, and obnoxious characters you hate to love help it stand out among other sci-fi comedies. It's safe to say that Harmon had a hand in creating two TV comedy classics.
