7 Greatest Game Of Thrones Monologues

1. The Kingslayer Confesses ("Kissed By Fire")

Jaime Lannister was on an interesting path in Season 3. After being freed from captivity by Catelyn Stark and entrusted to Brienne of Tarth at the end of Season 2, he temporarily escapes from Brienne, is captured with her by Stark men, has his sword hand chopped off with a dirty knife, is forced to wear the rotting hand around his neck, and is delivered to the sinister Roose Bolton.

By the time that he slips into a bathtub with an indignant Brienne, he is starved, feverish, and broken. All in all, he's not really in the mental state for any manipulation, and even honorable Brienne seems to believe the horrifying story of how he earned his nickname. Jaime's still not a good guy. He still flung Bran from a tower and had an affair with Cersei. He killed Jory and crippled Ned. He loves a good taunt.

Still, with the revelation of what happened on the day when Tywin Lannister sacked King's Landing, Jaime's character changed forever...and so did Brienne's view of him. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau was remarkable, and we can only hope that he continues receiving meaty plots in Season 4.

Fiction buff and writer. If it's on Netflix, it's probably in my queue. I've bought DVDs for the special features and usually claim that the book is better than the movie or show (and can provide examples). I've never met a TV show that I won't marathon. Follow on Twitter @lah9891 .
