3. Lane Pryce - Mad Men

Mad Men is one of those unmissable series, in that if you haven't watched it yet then drop what you're doing and go now.

The story of Maddison Avenue (Mad Men, see) marketing executives is as detailed and expansive as any seen on TV, even Game Of Thrones couldn't be said to have got their scope more fine-tuned than Mad Men did. The epic tale of Don Draper's life and business had many people coming and going all of the time but none were more memorable than Lane Pryce.

Lane was portrayed wonderfully by Jared Harris and was the English gentlemen in among the American brashness. His story of joining Sterling, Cooper and Draper to start a new advertising company before letting everything slip and having to commit suicide is one of great tragedy and pain. The show was always at its best with him in it and once he was gone Mad Men lacked that which it had lost in Lane Pryce.

Though he was only in 3 seasons of the series, Harris made his mark and seasons 3-5 are often regarded as not just the best of Mad Men but some of the best TV of all time.
