7 Legendary TV Characters Who Deserve A Prequel Spin-Off

6. Merle And Daryl Dixon - The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead does a fantastic job of making you care for the people battling the undead though the post-apocalyptic landscape, and ensures that the zombies are not the only threat to the future of mankind. There's plenty of bad guys roaming around who still have a pulse, and it keeps the drama fresh and real when the flesh eaters are off-screen. When Merle and Daryl Dixon appear in season one, they seem like stock redneck characters who are likely to become entrees for the walkers, but both became fully-fleshed out characters, with Daryl in particular becoming one of the most popular characters on the show: A perfect mix of consummate zombie-killer with a dark and brooding exterior, but who has so many layers and a caring side that is shown perfectly in season two, when he searches tirelessly for the lost child, Sophia. Merle is left for dead in the first season. Handcuffed to a pipe on the rooftop of a building filled with approaching flesh eaters, Merle escapes, and is reunited with his brother in season three, where things end tragically. Having learned how Merle raised Daryl and often protected him from their drunk and abusive father, it generates a lot of sympathy and understanding for the past actions of both characters. The prequel TV show for the Dixon brothers would follow their plight during the early days of the zombie apocalypse, intercut with flashbacks from their childhoods and adolescence, including Merle's time in prison and Daryl's time spent alone in the wilderness. A companion piece for The Walking Dead, featuring two of its most interesting and unpredictable characters.
