7 Legendary TV Characters Who Deserve A Prequel Spin-Off

5. Gareth Keenan - The Office

Ricky Gervais has said before that people watched The Office for David Brent but kept watching because of Tim and Dawn, and the love story that unfolded over the 12 episode run, and culminated beautifully in the Christmas special. This is undoubtedly true, but you can also argue that David Brent's right-hand man, Gareth Keenan (played by Mackenzie Crook), was the true comic genius of the show. Brent is desperate to be liked by everyone, but Gareth believes himself to be the most important person in the world, even though he is naïve to the point of being childlike. It makes him an easy target for Tim and Dawn, and his reactions to their jibbing are hilarious, especially when Gareth becomes defensive whilst talking about his status within the TA's and starts an investigation into who sent an obscene email. A Gareth Keenan prequel series would follow Keenan as a 16 year old school leaver, who joins the Territorial Army in the belief that he will be trained into the deadliest man in the world. The series would cut between his TA duties and the world of work, where Gareth is ridiculed every single day. But he doesn't care, because he can kill a man with his bare hands, and don't you forget it.
