7 Most Hotly Anticipated Upcoming TV Series This Fall
5. The Flash (The CW, October)
With most extended series trailers, things tend to drag a bit by the four or five-minute mark because most of them tend to be the pilots condensed to their most exciting bits, and non-stop action and anguish for the length of an ad break gets a bit dull when there's no space to breathe. For most that's true, but the latest Flash trailer is something different. Showing us more or less the full origin of Barry Allen's super-speedster and showcasing his newfound abilities, the trailer's exhilarating and teasing enough to suggest that - for all of the action we see in the clip - there's going to be a hell of a lot more to come. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yj0l7iGKh8g While this comic book show is itself a spin-off from the much-admired Arrow series on the WB, The Flash marks the first superhero serial about someone with actual powers since, well, Smallville. (Agents of SHIELD doesn't really count because resurrection isn't really a power and nobody has any clue what Skye's supposed to be able to do.) And if the network doesn't screw it up and tighten the budget, then they might just be able to pull off a legit superhero drama that can contend on an effects level with its cinematic counterparts. Fingers crossed.
