7 Reasons We Need Hannibal Season 4
3. The Chance To See A New Interpretation Of Silence Of The Lambs
To many, the definitive adaptation of Thomas Harris' Lecter novels is still 1991's The Silence of the Lambs, directed by the late, great Jonathan Demme, and starring Anthony Hopkins as the author's famous cannibalistic serial killer.
Demme's film still holds up almost 30 years after its release, and is certainly considered superior when compared to the other big budget adaptations of Harris' works to have graced the silver screen. Still, despite Silence's prestige - or perhaps because of it - fans are desperate to see it reinterpreted under Fuller's guidance, with Dancy and Mikkelsen reprising their roles as Will and Hannibal, and a new actor stepping into the scene as Clarice Starling.
Fuller has himself publicly declared his intentions to adapt Silence into a fourth season of Hannibal, previously stating his desire for Starling to be played by a woman of colour. Fuller has also previously stated that there are parts of the Silence novel that were omitted in the film that he's particularly keen to bring to the screen, so you just know he's thought of all the ways to make his adaptation feel fresher and more unique.
There has been some talk that Hannibal Season 4 wouldn't venture into Silence territory, given the rights issues, but if Fuller is able to procure them for the show - and a network finally picks up the phone and sanctions a revival - then there's no doubt it would make for some seriously compelling television.
