7 Reasons Why You Need To Revisit Californication
5. The Supporting Characters
Outside of Becca,
there are a number of characters who join Hank on his seven season journey. Few
make it through the entire show by his side, but those who do include his agent
Charlie Runkle, a seriously impulsive and self-destructive soul whose tales of
debauchery rival Hank’s; Charlie’s wife Marcy, a care-free and adventurous
woman who proves to be a good friend to Hank; and Hank’s on-and-off-again love
interest, Karen.
Whilst all of these characters are brilliant creations, and a true joy to watch, Californication’s true powers when it comes to supporting characters are its guest stars.
Along the way, Hank meets an ageing rock star called Lou Ashby (Callum Keith Rennie), a guy who often surpasses Hank in the messiness of his personal life; Eddie Nero (Rob Lowe), a wonderfully arrogant actor; Samurai Apocalypse (RZA), a daunting rap star; and Atticus Fetch (Tim Minchin), an eccentric and borderline insane musician.
These characters and more add a real sense of dysfunction and insanity to the show’s tone and daring nature.
