7 Reasons Why You Need To Revisit Californication

4. It's Risky - But Makes It Pay Off

Californication is not everyone’s cup of tea. Full to bursting with sex, excessive drug use, constant alcohol binges, care-free nudity, and some pretty harsh subject matter because of these things, it may seem to non-viewers that it’s a show which is risky and over-the-top just for the sake of it.

But anyone who’s watched the show will happily tell you otherwise.

Sure, it’s crazy with adult scenarios and seriously OTT crassness, but frankly it all works out really well.

Managing to be somehow seedy, glamorous and even romantic, the themes mentioned above all work wonders to sum up Hank Moody as a character, and Californication as a show which is willing to take the plunge into hard-to-pull-off territory.

And, come on, when it comes to a show about a drunk, broken, womanising author in LA, loosely based on Charles Bukowski, then what else would you expect? In other words, it’s fine just the way it is, and it knows it.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
