7 Reasons Why You Need To Revisit Californication

2. Its Mockery Of The Celebrity

Californication has no issues making fun of Hollywood and its stars. Whilst it rarely calls out famous people by name, the characters who Hank comes across during his travels all clearly represent just how overhyped celebrity status is and, in many cases, how messed-up but ultimately human famous people are.

In Season Two, audiences meet Lou Ashby, whose rock ā€˜nā€™ roll lifestyle paints a clear picture of what life is like for a drug fuelled rock star with little comprehension of how destructive their life has become.

In Season Six, Atticus Fetch fills this role, presenting audiences with a man who is as insane, addictive and arrogant as musicians can be in the public eye.

Even Sasha Bingham (Addison Timlin), an actress introduced in Season Four, quite brilliantly represents the idea of a young actress trying to break out into more adult roles, wanting to be taken more seriously.

But of course the main example of celebrity being mocked is Hank Moody himself, whose exploits range from the hilariously bleak to the straight-up illegal, an image of a man with money and fame who nonetheless makes life an absolute nightmare for himself and usually has very little to show for himself other than his image.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
