7 TV Comedies Led By Women That Totally Nailed It

5. New Girl

While the movie "No Strings Attached" might have been Elizabeth Meriwether's first real break in writing, one might say that the sitcom "New Girl" really put her on the television map. The charming series that was originally titled "Chicks & Dicks" aired on Fox on September, 2011. The main character is Jess (Zooey Deschanel), an offbeat and somewhat of a weirdo teacher who moves into an L.A. loft with three men. The show combines comedy and a bit of drama as the characters, all in their early thirties, deal with relationship issues and career choices. This sitcom is very different to the previous two on this list in the sense that it doesn't offer us a new perspective on women. This particular woman is neither high-power nor crude and dealing with poverty. Than again, good writing and good acting could just be enough for a good comedy. "Viewers will come to see Deschanel but they'll stay for the whole package", Los Angeles Times wrote."Smart writing, confident timing and characters that are both familiar yet surprisingly fresh make New Girl the most promising comedy".
