7 Ways To Bring Firefly Back

1. As An Event Mini-Series

Perhaps the most likely avenue for Firefly to return is as an event mini-series. Producer Tim Minear gave his reasons for why he felt this route offers the most realistic chance in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:
"I think a limited series of some kind would work best. Something like that could also work if, say, 20th could partner with Netflix, or another distributor. It would have its home on Fox, of course . A limited series would do very well, I bet."
Minear is right in that the costs of mounting a 3-part Firefly mini-series would be far more viable than a full series or cinematic release. The DVD sales of Firefly and Serenity and the continuing fanbase would seem to be enough in fans eyes to justify a return but production executives are a different matter, and any idea that raises the marketability and profitability of the franchise without damaging the creative integrity has to be looked upon favourably. The format of Sherlock is the perfect model for Firefly to adhere to in many respects, the show could have a new third incarnation after previously being an ongoing series and movie, in a way which bridges both, yet creates something new and distinct. Of all the ways to bring Firefly back this would have to be the most fitting outcome any Browncoat could hope for. One final external factor that could have a knock on effect in heralding Firefly's return is the return of Star Wars, this is true whatever form it takes. Each time Star Wars has appeared in cinemas it has given a shot in the arm to the space-faring genre, most notably Battlestar Galactica and a host of imitators in the late 70's and the Galactica remake and Firefly itself in the early 2000's. Given the feverish interest in Episode VII there is no reason to think this time will be any different, something that could bring the joy of resurrection that Star Wars fans are currently experiencing to Browncoats everywhere.
