8 Amazing Red Dwarf Details You Never Noticed

5. Talkie Toaster Returns A Familiar Voice

Series three brought about several changes in the lineup.

Notably was Hattie Hayridge taking over the mantle of Holly from Norman Lovett, who moved and didn't want to travel for rehearsals.

But the longest-standing change was that of Kryten, with Robert Llewellyn reprising the role from David Ross, who had stage commitments to continue with.

Yet in a weird way, Ross did also reprise a character that also went through a revision. Talkie Toaster, the bread-obsessed cooking device, suffered first degree toastercide at the hands of Lister and a lump hammer.

Much like Kryten being reassembled after crashing Lister's space bike (to explain the change of accent, etc), Talkie was resurrected for the head scratching antics of season four's White Hole.

And to anyone, it's just a talking toaster with a different voice than its season two counterpart. But the keen eared of you (or those that watch credits) will notice that Talkie's voice is none other than David Ross.

That's right, the original Kryten returns in cameo form as another implement with a desire to serve. Albeit a slight annoying one.
