4. Tin Star
Tin Star is an edgy, hardboiled drama that pits small-town sheriff with a dark past Jim Worth (Tim Roth) against a shady corporation invading his Rocky Mountain town.
The first season pulls no punches while blending crime, action and drama, and Roth really shines in the lead role, which is one of duality. It's fascinating (and bloody) when his character's violent alter ego Jack Devlin comes to the fore when his family is threatened.
Tin Star might have joined Ozark on the list of dad-gone-bad dramas that fails to hit the heights of Breaking Bad, were it not for Roth's stellar performances coupled with strong deliveries from supporting cast members Christina Hendricks, who plays a crime boss, and Genevieve O'Reilly as the protagonist's wife.
That isn't to say it's on par with AMC's iconic drug drama or anywhere close to that standard, but Tin Star is more than just another imitator.
