8 Best Unsung Antiheroes Of TV's Golden Age
1. Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen) - Masters Of Sex
William Masters is a ready-made antihero as he's on the right side of the sexual revolution advancing science forward in an era of repression and ignorance. He sees the naughtiest of sins as cold hard science and he's determined to carry on his experiments with tunnel vision whether academia is ready for him or not.
At the heart of the drama is William and his admirable tenacity in the face of rejection. At the same time, Masters (or at least the television version of him) is a tragic character.
Though he is one of the most knowledgeable people in the world about sex and views it with an appropriate distance, he still can't stop himself from upending his own marriage because of it. The love triangle between William, his traditional wife (Caitlin Fitzgerald), and his intellectual foil of an assistant Virginia (Lizzy Caplan) represents irony at its best and, in addition to his tenacity, it's what makes him so interesting as a character.
